1911 census

Notice on this census my grandfather/grandmother state they were married for 15 years. Not so. They did not marry until 1916 when my father went to France in WW1. Can be somewhat misleading for other searchers with the same problem.
regards to all

Yes porkies were often told to save face, as you say some info needs to be taken with a pinch of salt until proved.
Yours may have been together for fifteen years and the neighbours thought they were married , the enumerator may have been a local man so they would still cover themselves when given info

Hi Grace,

Yes the same thing happened to me. They said they'd been married for 3 years but I couldn't find the marriage.

A kind helper on here found it for me, it took place several years later.
