The IGI searches 2 kinds of records - user contributed, often by Mormon members (these are of variable quality), and extracted.
The #s are batch #s, and entering one will restrict the search to extracted records - typically from one register - e.g., here a Baptismal register from Aldenham covering 1559-1812, say. The m's are marr registers - the e's are miscellaneous (but mostly marrs). Sometimes they're not old parish registers, but bishop's transcripts (the church's back-up copy). Click on the source # and drill down and you'll see what they are and where they were gotten.

Note you can find a nearby FHC in the centre column if you ever wanted to rent a film.
In the menu bar - Search Records - Advanced Search (Record Search Pilot & Library Catalog are also useful).
Then pick the IGI in the left margin, and start searching.
