Hi Everyone.
Just when I thought spring might be on it's way and was lulled by a week of warm temps and sunshine. The weather has turned bitterly cold again.

Wish I was going to Bali with Susan.
Oh for some warmth...........

I have decided the people who frequent the Dry Cleaner's where I work must certainly lead interesting lives
.
Monday afternoon I was inundated

with the following ........ A coat covered in lemon Meringue pie, a Tablecloth covered in Chocolate, Trousers covered in candle-wax a Shirt and and a coat covered in Curry, a Skirt covered in Coffee and finnaly to Finnish it of a tie covered in vomit!!!

These where all different people. It is never dull at work.

Must go now and serve up tea before Hells Kitchen Starts.

Week 2 of Training - its all about restaurants for the next day or 2 - then sports & theatres - Yes I could do it myself - but I am away from the phone and getting paid for it.

I am sure i have seen Shaun dancing in a kilt somewhere.

Susan hows the cold? you need to get up on those pins and packing.

Is it nice having a couple of nights on your own again Sylvia?

Josie - they certainly lead exciting lives the people who pop in your dry cleaners. My mum use to work in one years ago - she became manageress of her own shop in the end & a new one at that, quite a large one if I remember - I was only 6 when she moved jobs - i can still remember the smell now. Happy days

Anyone know where Evelyn's hiding - not caught Susans cold I hope.

Reece hope you are reading these - still thinking of you - hang on in there - we all miss you.

Peaceful 2 nights!! Also cooler than it has been for the last several weeks, so we have both slept well.


I had to call for an "urgent" visit with the locum physio, my back has been acting up and I just couldn't get it right. Got an appointment for 11:30 this morning (ie, Tuesday mroning)

I had seen the locum a couple of times last summer, so he wasn't quite a stranger ....... but I'm not sure whether the treatment was worse than the problem .... he found every spot that was "tight" and thus hurting, then applied lots of pressure with his elbow!

I did ask him about my niece's problem

He said that problems with that joint during pregnancy are pretty common, and not uncommon afterwards, although he himself had not seen anyone in such bad straits.

He said the physio who got her walking was good, but she will need to do strengthening exercises for months, plus may have to wear a special belt type of thing to provide support for some time. Will possibly / probably also have to take anti-inflammatory pills ... I'm not sure what is available for a nursing mother.

The way he described was that the joint was a sort of L shape, and it is pretty easy for the one side not to fit evenly into the angle of the L as the ligaments tighten up.

We also have 2 Swiss friends visiting tomorrow, so will not be around until very late.

Hi Everyone

We had a wonderfull day yesterday,thought we would go for a drive down south to Walpole.
It has been quite sunny of late and I have not been out of the house much in the last few weeks.
We had such a good time we stayed overnight at a motel in Walpole,we had a very nice dinner at the nearby Hotel.
We got home an hour ago and it is pooring down with rain so the timeing was perfect.

I am all packed to go on Sat,just waiting now,

Are they still making Midsummer Murders in the UK,ours have just gone off the TV here,just wondered if they are still making them ......love the show.

Sylvia ..I hope your back gets better soon or improves somewhat,you can't do anything if your back is out and painfull,mine used to get me in the lower half.
My husband had to get me into the car one time curled up as I could not stand ,as I was carried into the doctors rooms everyone looked at me very strange.
A few clicks here and there and I walked out,no more trouble since.

Josie not to far to Bali for you,maybe we will meet each other there one day.

Better get some housework done,

Uugh Josie, not sure I would enjoy working there as much as you do............much as I love people! Mind you, you obviously never know what is going to happen next! Do you clean wedding dresses, curtains etc. too?


Sylvia - sorry to hear that your back has been acting up again. Too much fun going on in your house by the sound of things!


I have a dodgy disc but it hasn't bothered me for a while for which I am extremely grateful.

A fairly busy day here today - taking the grandchildren to the dentist this afternoon and then bringing them back here for a meal.

Heard that a close friend isn't very well. He went on holiday last week and they thought he had a chest infection. Now they are talking about heart failure. As he is already diabetic and has kidney disease, this is very worrying for his family. He is only 54 so we are very concerned for them all.


Well, on that not very cheery note I will have a quick browse and then nip for a shower.

Cynthia so sorry to hear about your friend,54 is very young to have a condition like that I do hope it turns out to be not so bad for him and his family after all.

I have been busy today cleaning out the birds cage ,he is going to the daughters while we are away,they do have a cat so the Grandaughter is going to keep him in her bedroom.
We will worry about him he is the only pet we have since we lost our dog.

Frank I cant cuddle up to my other half to keep warm as he make me too hot so maybe men to go though the change as well.

Going to do the dinner dishes.check in later.

Shame about your dodgy disc but that's what you get for buying Shaun the Sheep's top ten ;))

Seriously though, my OH had back trouble in her forties and was back and forward to hospital for tests which lasted over a year.
They finally relented and admitted her for a disc removal but not before she had become doubled over and walking with a stick which I had to cut down gradually as her stoop became more and more severe.
At the end of it all she looked like a 70 year old woman bent over double but once the operation was over, she was like a new woman and back to normal.

It would have been nice if they had done it all a bit faster rather than have to wait over a year for treatment.

Sorry about your OH's back Frank but really glad that all turned out well for her. She needs to be upright to deal with you !!!


Our friend has mild heart failure apparently. He has some medication to remove the fluid from his lungs and has to wait and see how that works. May have to go down the heart test route........oh dear.....a shock for us all but he is remaining cheerful.



Took the grandchildren to the dentist today and then back here for a meal.....after they had gone, the kitchen looked like Beirut...honest injun.....it was worse than Christmas Day! I wouldn't care but I tend to wash up as I go along........ah well. It took OH and myself 30 mins to clear up!



Better get some beauty sleep. Night folks. Cx

Getting butterflies now ,the trip is getting very close.

I hate flying so I have a few pills the doctor gave me to keep me calm.

We plan to try to go to bed about 6pm tomorrow and get a few hours sleep before we drive the three hours up to Perth airport.
We need to be there two hours before the 7.30am flight ,we arrive in Bali just before lunch time.

I am off to bed now .will check in tomorrow.

Hi all

very busy yesterday ......... OH drove downtown to pick up 2 Swiss friends at 10 am from the hotel where they were staying. Brought them back to the house and chatted ............ until it was time for him to drive out to the airport to pick up daughter and MJ at ca 11:30 am on their return from "oop north".

Back to our house. More chat. Lunch ..... very simple, plates of cold meat, cheese, salad fixings, 2 kinds of bread, and make your own sandwiches.

Then we took our Swiss friends out for the afternoon, leaving J at home with MJ to sort herself out. We drove to an old fishing village about 30 minutes away.

It was originally populated mainly by Japanese Canadians, and there were about 4 canneries there (mainly canning salmon). Then in 1942, after Pearl Harbour, the Canadian government stripped all Japanese of their houses, cars, boats and other assets, and moved them to camps inland and in other provinces .................. racial of course, premise being that they would betray Canada to Japan. Most of them had in fact been born in canada, and some were 3rd or 4th generation Canadian. None was ever a traitor. So a big black mark. Many of them came back to the coast after the war was over, but only a few were able to go back to fishing.

The village still has a much smaller fishing fleet, all but one of the canneries has been demolished and replaced with blocks of apartments and town houses ........... and the one remaining is a National Historic Site where you can see how it used to operate.

BUT there is a fantastic board walk around the ahrbour, lots of good places to eat (mainly seafood!!!), and a number of the fishing boats sell fresh fish caught that morning. OH bought a 3lb sockeye salmon, we'll have it tomorrow night.

Then back home, bbq pork steaks etc, and finally take the visitors home at about 9pm!


I did do too much walking, so am a bit sore today ............... but have to be good to go out for dinner tonight. It's our 43rd anniversary


Opening of the Grouse season as OH likes to put it!

We were supposed to have pouring rain today....it's been beautiful would you believe? Washing dried etc.etc.


Have been making some good progress in a family tree I am working on for a friend so feel quite pleased with myself......not as good as Sylvia and the rest of you, but I plod on slowly.



Our friend was discharged from hospital and called to see us....then someone else called at the same time....isn't it just typical that I hadn't dusted! When I do do the dusting, no-one calls!!


Haven't heard from Evelyn in a while have we? I think she was helping someone with a problem so that may have taken her time up.



I expect Sylvia is busy with her daughter and grandson as she hasn't been around for a couple of days I don't think.


Ah well, off for a browse.

One year when we worked at Gleneagles hotel they brought in the first grouse of the season in on a hot air balloon...... head chef et all !

They were always trying new ways to bring in the grouse season.

I can just see that rolling pin flying through the air and landing bang on target. Well, don't expect any sympathy from me my man.

Frank ...... we honeymooned at Gatehouse-of-Fleet for 3 days, back to Chester, then left the UK 2 days later ...... so about 5 days after we married

BA to New York, economy class

dinner was choice of Angus steak or a fish.

I asked for steak, so did OH

stewardess came back to OH and apologised profusely becasue they had run out of steak


so they gave him a dinner that was meant for First Class

Sadly my OH is not into Hunting and Fishing, Though his Father was a keen Hunter who used to bag Deer and Wild Boar.

OH just couldn't face the idea of killing 'Bambi'

Cynthia yes we do Wedding Dresses and Curtains, we Cleaned a cape and tunic the other day for some guy who belongs to a group who dress up as 'knights Templers' and I presume re- enact historic battles,

It's the social aspect that the job allows which I enjoy about it plus I get to handle 'Versace, Gucchi, Armani as well as other top designers that I could only dream of owning garments like these. The Dry-cleaners is situated in the top suburb of Wellington, lots of Embassies, plenty of wealth. Our biggest clients have their clothes bought in by their House Keepers, Nannies or Chauffeurs.

I still crack up every time I think of Frank in association with Kilts and Sporrans and now I have this picture of him Scottish Country Dancing over craggy out crops and gorse bushes while chasing Grouse!!!

When will it end?
