Okay.....everyone is on holiday......Robert....I need your help here please.

I have been doing the family tree of a friend which is to be a surprise for him. Today I went to meet a relative of his who lives locally. They have never met and she was thrilled to see the finished product. She also let me have photocopies of a several document she had relevant to the family.

Hope all are well. Hup to the top of the page we go :)) Cx

Well, there's a first.......Frank blushing... and so he should too - he's our hero............hang around whilst I fetch the halo polish my friend :))

Tis quiet on here. I'm feeling all lonely now.

Went to a quiet birthday party supper last night - it's good to be with friends.

Josie! You're never 1000 are you? You don't look a day over 35. Hope you are well and that you are still enjoying your job.

Anne is gallivanting and I am not sure where Evelyn is. Do hope Reece feels able to join us soon.

Sue? Where's Sue??

Robert, I hope, is tucked up snug in his little shell, safe from the wet and windy weather.

OH is watching one of the daft Conan the Destroyer films. Arnie Sch's muscles are just too, too much for me. I prefer my men with gentler proportions.

We changed our cotton sheets for the flannelette ones last night and it was soooooo cosy. Not long before I put the electric blanket back on methinks!

Well, here's a nudge back to show we are still around. Love to all. Cx.

Her hair is growing back ever so slowly and she has to take a pill everyday for five years ,does anyone know of and side affects for them .

It is warming up a bit now so the gardens are showing a lot of growth, my Roses are looking great should be a good year.

Cynthia
I have just changed from Flanelette sheets to Cotten,I think I will miss my nice soft sheets.

Hi all

it's fall weather here .... raining and getting cooler.

OH has arranged for the plumber to start on the kitchen renovation on October 4. Apparently the work will be spread over 2 or 3 days, the finishing bit being determined by when the flooring is laid.

It involves some new piping. The inlet into the house for water is in the basement, and has to be led upstairs. The old pipe to the kitchen sink was installed when the house was built (about 1944) ................ not only was it a metal of some sort, but it was installed in the wall. At a later date, the pipe under the kitchen sink was connected to newer copper piping where it came out from the wall, and then to plastic piping around 1980.

So, we've decided to have all new piping installed from the basement to the sink, but out in the open so we can get to it for repairs etc. Plus, there is some evidence that the old metal can react with copper, and that may not be too good for us. The old piping inside the wall will be sealed off, but left in place .......... so we shouldn't havve to have the wall ripped apart!

The house was re-wired about 4 years ago, and I think everything should be OK there.

I'm not sure how much more storage space we will get when the new base cupboards and counters are installed, since we basically lose one cupboard to the dishwasher. BUT we are going to have pull-out shelves in the cupboards, so it will make life much easier. No getting down on your knees to see what is in there! I haven't been able to do that for at least the last couple of years, and OH has had to do it for me ..... but he's beginning to compain about his knees now!

OH's sister arrives on Sunday evening for an overnight visit, she has to be back at the airport by about 8 am. She's visiting her daughter in the Yukon and cannot get there from her home town without flying south to Vancouver, and then north from here to the Yukon! At least we get to see her every few months, even if only for overnight!

OH plans to start ripping out the bottom cupboards and counters after she's left.

Tonight we're going out to an "Information Meeting" ......... there are big plans to do a redevelopment on the site of our local Safeway (grocery store). The plans involve moving the store to the front of its car park, and building 3 high rise towers on the rest. One of 9 floors, one of 14, and one of 24 ........ this in an area where there are mainly houses but also lots of apartment buildings, none higher than 4 floors. About 50% of the new apartments are supposed to be for renting at "affordable" rents ....... but the rents that are being suggested are NOT affordable. In fact, the cost I heard for a 2-bedroom apartment is almost twice the going rate in the neighbourhood. Granted that's in much older buildings, BUT the rooms in those older apartments are also much larger!

Not only that, but the site is at the junction of 2 major roads, with quite incredible traffic AND a high accident rate at the corner.

I'm also concerned about the facilities in the neighbourhood for that number of extra people ............. the elementary school is old and already has extra portable buildings to accommodate students, the high school is way over subscribed, the local community centre is old and ....................... you see what I mean?!

off for a mooch

Hi Sue. Glad to know that you are okay and that your sister in law is doing well. Your weather sounds a lot nicer than ours I can tell you!

Oooh Sylvia. I don't envy you all that work but it will be worth it in the long run. I love the idea of pull out cupboards. My top ones are quite tall and I have to use a little fold up stool to reach the top shelf so I put things I don't need very often up there! What I would really like at eye level (and only said so this evening to my OH), is my fridge. I am fed up of having to grovel and bend to see what's in there. I cleaned it out yesterday and found eggs I didn't know I had........!! Things often get pushed to the back where I can't see them. Have you got a colour scheme in mind? I went for black and white with red 'bits' - canisters, bowls, vase etc. Quite effective if I say so myself.....lol

Sounds like you will be a wee bit vocal tonight at the meeting......now don't go getting over excited!!

Not a very exciting day here but that's fine by me. Docs with OH for monthly appointment. We had a good chat about autism matters as he is very supportive. Tesco, lunch and ironing. Just right.

I'm off for a browse too....maybe we will bump into each other....lol

Josie.......our little Kiwi friend;Frank.....our hero;Robert......our venerable friend; Evelyn....our traveller....hope you are all well. Wonder if Anne is having a good time. ~~~~~~~to all friends. Cx.

Hi all,

Now calm down girls, here's something you don't often see in Tesco...

Viagra !

Apparently you can already buy 4 tablets for £55.00 from Boots but Tesco are offering 8 tablets for £52.00.

Hope no one mixes it up with Hermesetas ;)

It was in the Daily Mail, honest.............BBC as well.

oo'er Frank

hope they wait until they get home before they take it :))))

C .... the pull out drawer /shelves are only in the lower cupboards. They aren't really feasible for upper cupboards ............. could even be dangerous.

I'm not vertically challenged, I'm now 5' 7" (used to be 5' 8½" lol!), but I still need a foot stool to see what is on the top shelves. I can see to the back of the second shelf up if I stand on tippy toes.

We have a fridge with a bottom freezer ................... this is supposed to make it easier to see what is in your fridge vs a fridge with a top freezer section.

It does

but

.............. it is now difficult to see what is in the freezer!!

Mine has a shelf and a wire basket ............. I have to sit on the floor to see everything that is in there!

Well Frank......I'm.......I'm.......I'm.......all overcome! Which aisle did you say they were on......:))

Sylvia, sound like we all have similar probs with the ups and downs of cupboards, fridges and freezers! Actually my indoor freezer has drawers which I can pull out to sort through....likewise the freezer in my garage....drawers, so easy to view. It's my fridge which really annoys me.

Colour Sylvia??

I love my Tuesday mornings at our local hospital as we always have a laugh over something and it's good to cheer people up. Mind you, we are very sensitive if we see a sombre group going past. We often wonder what jobs some of the 'suited' people carrying files do in the hospital, especially in the light of the news of how many people in the health sector earn more than the PM.

Picked up the grandchildren from school this afternoon. They are a sheer tonic and we always laugh at their antics as they pack up ready to go home with dad. The junk they carry around is ridiculous - they look as though they are going on a ten mile hike!

Another browse around before bed. Night good friends. Cx.

Hi all

a lovely sunny day today, got up to about 17C

Officially becomes fall tomorrow

C ............... all of our appliances are white, except for the microwave we bought last year which is stainless steel. Don't really like stainless .... but it was the size we wanted, and the price was right :))

We have an upright freezer in the basement, much easier to use than the old chest freezer that I used to hang head downwards into! The upright has shelves, and 2 drawers down at the bottom.

well, both OH and I did open our mouths last night :)), and bot of us mentioned that we had been on the Area Plan established in 1979 ..... which of coruse is now 30 years out of date.

The overwhelming mood from the people last night (about 100 I would guess) was that a new Community Plan was needed, and no re-zoning or approvement of this development should be done until a plan was approved. Everyone who spoke thought the tower was too tall, in the wrong place etc etc.

It was all very interesting!

off to mooch around

Clever old Sue.......you managed to do that Skype thingey....very impressed. Wonder what Frank thinks??

Haven't heard from Evelyn for a while and where's our Josie gone???

I find an upright freezer much easier too.......all that hanging over the edge and discovering that what you wanted was right at the bottom at the farthest corner!

I am sure that both you and your OH spoke complete common sense last night Sylvia - good for you for sticking to your guns.

We had a glorious day here until about 5pm and then the rain came...and it sounds as though it's pouring now!

Cooked a meal that was almost a Christmas lunch for 6 today.....I was quite impressed with myself as I was all cleared away by about 6.30pm. and I hadn't arrived home till nearly 4....(the chicken had been in put in before I went out). Must be getting good at this......it's only taken 42 years.....lol

Ah well, nearly time for bed........mmmmmm snuggly sheets.

Night all. Cx.

Hi Everyone

Skype works a treat,I spoke to my cousin for 30 min last night ,I could see him very plain just like he was next door.
I do hate people seeing me in film though, same with having my photo taken, but they will have to take me as I am.

The only thing I did not realise is that it used 70 mgbts doing it so I have to be carefull with my downlaods and uploads

I recieved my Seniors card today you get it here when you turn 60,it gives you money off lots of things but it is not the same as you get when you retire at 65 then you get all the benifits.
Still I will take whatever they want to give me.

I am having a me day today so I am off to my friends house and we are off shopping for the day ,looks like takeaway for tonight.

Catch you all tonight.
