Hiya Wayno!! Long time no see! Good to have you back - have been thinking about you whilst listening to the terrible news from out there. Lovely to know that the community spirit is alive and well - I suppose that's how it was in the war....but wasn't around then!
Frank, thank you for the advice. Am going to have a go at IE8 when I get a minute. Hope you both fully recover soon. Mind you, the older one gets, the longer it can take.....!! Look after the sporran.
Dentists? I would much rather go to the dentist than to the docs. Ours has a tv in the ceiling which you can watch to take your mind off things but, to be honest, it is all relatively pain free now. Glad your mouth is settling down though Josie....
I've often wondered how people who live in these mansions can call them home. We have friends in that situation but the house they last lived in was like a Hollywood set. Not sure I would want a swimming pool just off my kitchen to be honest. I like somewhere cosy to settle down so that I can strew my papers all over the place.
Only 3.30pm but it's going very gloomy here. Quite mild but damp. Our snowdrops are beginning to show their heads which is a sight I always enjoy.
Take care. Cx

Hi all
Josie ............. hope all is going well with the dental work
OH is also having massive work done .................. but he went for having implants installed. Started last March, may have a proper mouthful of teeth come this March!
He's still very much the toothless wonder at the moment ................. he's always had to have a lot of work done, fillings or crowns done or replaced almost every year. So they have to make sure that old work is all replaced, or at least checked.
we've been told to expect in the range of $50,000
gulp
and our extended dental insurance will not cover most of it.
it should however mean that his teeth will be good to the end
Lovely, C ..... I love to see the snowdrops. Had a look round our garden eysterday .......... no sign of them showing yet
But it probably won't be long as the temp is up around 10C ........ sigh ......... there really is more winter to come.
Sue ....... glad to hear your Dad has improved so much, and that your aunt is doing well.
Anne .............. he'll get his comeuppance! What goes around, and all that.
Like C, I'd rather have a home not a show house
Take care everyone

Sylvia I do agree - its a show house not a home - its always the same with him
Sue - forgot to mention - what good news about your dad & auntie
Tend to get sidetracked some days
Its bedlam here - too busy firefighting to know what we are doing -
Well its stopped raining & the sun may be on the way out (for a change)
No snowdrops yet - but then i don't often see the garden in daylight, except at weekends at the moment - darkish when i leave & darker when I get home.
Will wander off now & see what is going on - just for a break
Take care all

Hi all
well, we had an interesting evening yesterday!
all set for a peaceful time on the computer, and OH on his computer downstairs, when the power suddenly went out at about 7:45 pm and we were in almost pitch blackness ........... which meant the street lights had also gone out.
Found the torch (I have one in almost every room), then found the candles, and lit a few, while OH phoned the electricity hot line
hmmmmmmmmm
"we know there is an outage in your area. Power should be resumed by 11 pm Monday January 17"
hmmmmmmmmmm
OH went for a walk to see how many people were affected ......... a rectangular block of something like 50 houses.
I lit more candles
found my book headlight (great for travelling!), and we settled down to reading by candlelight
also made some plans for how to get hot water for tea ........ camp stove or visiting the local Starbucks
power came back on about 8:50 pm
.............. and we then had to spend nearly an hour setting all the clocks, microwaves, answer machines, tv, etc etc etc
at least the computer didn't need re-setting! Take care everyone

Hey Sylvia,
Just had this crazy vision of you wandering about the house in your Wynsyette nightie with a lamp on your head resembling a demented Dalek trying to light all of your candles :))
Here's a wee quote from BBC2 Horizon. "What is reality"
If you think you are understanding holographic principle then you are not because nobody gets it ................
WHIT........... ! and I thought understanding women was difficult :)

Frank,
Understanding women is not difficult - it is IMPOSSIBLE!!
As the lone male in an all female household, I was happy when we got a cat but when the Ladies discovered it was a male they had him castrated.

Robert - be very careful what you say or do - there are more than a few rolling pins around this thread
Frank - nice to have you back again
Waiting for a wise word from her with the broomstick
Sylvia - i too had a vision of you with the book lamp wandering around lighting candles - not sure where the nightie idea came from - naughty Frank
Who chopped through the power cable?
I know what you mean about all the things you have to reset - came home the other night & the cooker time was flashing 12:00 at me - so were the clocks in the bedrooms, the DVD was flashing & the two Mini music thingys. The microwave was blank & when I checked the Sky box it had only receorded part of a programme - goodness only knows what time the power wnet off during the day.
Great fun trying to sort out all times & still get the dinner on - OH wanders in & says guess what the power went off this afternoon, came back just as i was leaving for my lesson so didn't have a chance to reset anything - typical.
We never found out why it went off
Oh well back to work
Take care all

Cheers Robert,
You have my sympathies as I too am in a male free environment with both our cats being female as well.............I even have two grand-daughters AND lovely little things they are too :)
Anne, wasn't it Sylvia who got our last thread whooshed for going on about silks and wynsyettes.
I'll just dive for cover before she of broomstick fame appears or even worse that the rolling pin queen should use her Dalek disguise to sneak up on Robert and I.

We'll be alright up here cos Daleks can't climb stairs :))

Interesting day today
OH was at the dentist for a marathon session. He had another appointment at 1 pm, and about 11 am the dentist's receptionist phoned and asked if I could see if that appointment could be moved back to 2 pm ....... she gave a phone number and hoped it was correct because it was the best she could do "through all the hands in OH's mouth" as he gave it to her
I spent about 2 hours this evening planning our summer trip.
The society we both belong to has its annual meeting in NS in July ......... we used to attend every year, but have missed the last 2 years for various reasons. However, we really do feel that we should attend this one ....... combining it with a visit to the family of course!
J said they would prefer we stayed with them before the meeting rather than afterward.
So I have now presented her with an option of us arriving by plane, staying with them for about 9 days, moving to the university residence for the meeting, and then leaving by train the day after the meeting ends. Alternate dates would be arriving 1 or 2 days later.
As soon as she lets me know whether the dates fit for them, I'll email the information to OH, and he'll get our travel agent to work making the reservations. Somehow, Alvin often finds cheaper deals than I do!
And I always think of the Chipmunks when I say his name!!!!
We're going to splurge, and travel Executive Class on the plane. I did make the interesting discovery that Economy Class fares vary depending on the day of the week, and the time of day, but the two Executive Class fares never change! We're looking at the cheaper of the 2 fares ..... which is non-refundable. I don't see paying almost double just for the ability to make changes without paying extra! We'll take out travel insurance instead!
Tomorrow I have to go to see the retinologist to see if there is anyhting wrong with the retinas ... or if I just have itneresting eyes as the optician said back in November!
Take care everyone

What is it with the menfolk on here!! I thought they were the appreciative type......just goes to show. They obviously must have very understanding womenfolk who are patient and forebearing.
Just having a brief sit down before I fly off on the school run - it's early on a Wednesday so it cuts my morning short and lengthens the afternoon!
Oh yes Frank., before you ask.......I will be flying off in my car.....not on my broomstick!
Rolling pin at the ready - just in case I need to take hostages into the Tardis.
Bye~~~~~~Cx
After a foggy start, it's turned into a beautfully sunny day if somewhat chilly.
Sylvia.......we all know you have interesting eyes.....lol

Tardis - Daleks - flying broomsticks - & its not even October yet
Did anyone see the Dr Who Special at Christmas - weird or what - well even more weird than usual - didn't actually get anywhere did it - whats with all these flying fish & where did the shark come from - i can usually work it out - but this one left me stumped
Has Lark Rise lost the plot or is it me? & Sunday has a ssssssnake in it - may end up closing my eys a lot in that one.
I also seem to have lost the plot with the Kidnap & Hostage one on last Thursday - i may just have dozzzzzzzzzzzed off a little - but I do like Trevor Eve
Beginning to think I should stay with repeats at least i know what happened.
Must look up the internet to see when Bones/Fringe/NCIS season 8/Murdock Mysteries are back - I miss my programmes - i only have Castle left at the moment & a few re-runs of Judging Amy. Its so nice to flop for an hour & just lose yourself after a busy day & before the OH arrives home - must not complain but he has very few late evenings now - so I don't get the chance very often.
Sylvia - trip sounds good
Frank Take care - the rolling pin is out again
Any one heard from Evelyn?
Well off to explore & add a date or two to my diary.
Take care all

Anne,
I loved Dr Who as a boy but it ended up going very strange and rather lost it's way when Sylvester McCoy took over. Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant were absolutely amazing as Doctors but I've totally gone off it since Matt Smith took over and VAMPIRES......since when did Dr Who fight off VAMPIRES...... DOHH !!
I quite agree, lets have more NCIS.
Wot Cynthia, understanding women !?
................it's me and Robert who are extremely understanding allowing the world to go quietly on it's way with minimum interference.
I do wonder how you can fit into those little flying cars Cynthia, have you seen the size off the Jetson family.............they were all size 8.
Just remembered Rosie was the large robot cook wasn't she............ :))

Hi all
Watched Dr Who in its very early days ............. but not since we left the UK in 1967!
How about Borgs etc from Star Trek
OH has at least a couple more months before his mouth will be complete ............. by then he'll have had all crowns replaced, and several implants done. He thinks it will be worth it.
I got on well at the retinologist's ................ it was a long visit, as I didn't even get in to see the technician to be given 3 sets of eyedrops until 50 minutes after the appointment time. In fact OH arrived just about 5 minutes later, all ready to take me home!! Had to wait another 45 minutes or so to see the specialist
Anyway, he said my eyes are fine, he didn't see any need to carry out any treatment. He was very pleased with how well the cataract operations had turned out ...... I had them done in 2001, and he'd referred me to the other doctor.
I asked what my optician could have meant when she said I had "interesting eyes" back in November .............. and he just gave a little laugh and said "well, they are a little unusual"!!!
Anyway, it's nice to know that whatever she saw is not serious!!!
It will be almost 7 hours on the plane for us in July ............ only 2 hours shorter than for us to get to London UK! It's one reason why we prefer to travel by train .......... but we get food in Executive class and you no longer get fed on domestic flights, even these long-haul ones!
There is another airline that we could use to get to NS, and we flew with them last April. They only have Economy Class, but the seats are leather and are a little bigger than the national airline we're using this time, so it was a fairly comfortable flight. But it did take me a couple of days to get my hip and leg back to relatively pain-free.
To be honest, one reason for not using them this time is that I now know the sleeping arrangements we'll have at J&M's, they're different from last April, and I'd rather arrive as pain-free as possible to give me a head-start!
Another plus to taking Executive Class is that we save points with that airline, and get 50% more points (over whatever the base number is) for the flight ....... we're trying to save points and money with the idea of another trip to Australia, possibly next year. We had thought this year, but then changed our minds.
take care everyone

Hi Everyone
What a lot of good natured banter on here,it really makes my day and I think we all get a good laugh out of it.
Eyes I am off to my Opthamoligiest as I need another fields test, they think I have glucoma and are double checking before they give me the drops ,they are a lifetime thingy so not looking forwatd to that test.....it makes me feel sick when they are doing it .
I too loved Dr Who when I was a kid in the UK ,Left in 1966 can't remember his name back then but I do remember his face ,it is all too different for me now and I can't follow it.
Up to my neck in paperwork at present so can't stay on line too long ,this is where my eyes play up ,start seeing double after a while .
Sylvia your trip sound very nice wish I could afford the better seats on planes. The flight to the Uk from Oz is very long and I can't sleep on a plane at all, those bigger seats would be wonderfull but alas it is everyday class for me
My Aunt is back in Hospitol again she had a relapts. Still may fly over anyway it all is very upsetting as I am so far away from her.
I hope you boys in Scotland and near the border are warming up a bit . You have had a hard winter. Wayno is getting a wet one ,all the water from the Queensland floods are feeding into other rivers and causing havoc all over the place.
Nice cool one for us today Love to everyone Drop in later.

Hi Wayne - having fun i see
Sylvia - good news from the Ops
Sue - take care with all that computer work
The Dr Who situation - I am not keen on Matt Smith - does not fit the profile at all & things seem to have got weireder & weirder since he took over.
Sue - I think your Dr Who was Jon Pertwee - i loved him as Dr Who & my next favourite is David Tennant & Probably Peter Davidson
I hated Christopher Ecclestone - he was awful
Beds on planes - a wonderful idea & very good so I have heard - wish i too could afford Premium class seats - but I end up going Cattle class.
I hope Auntie gets better soon -
Its sunny here today but a little chilly
I seem to have the weekend off again - no OT - but a car Tax bill to pay £205 - what a price & in January
Anyone tried using FAMILY SEARCH recently - the new pilot/beta version
All I can say is - BRING BACK THE OLD VERSION I know it had its faults but at least you could get the country you wanted first time - without having to wade through loads of ones you don't want .
If I am doing something wrong somewhere - please let me know - but I hate the new version & i use to be on it all the time - why change things for the worse - the new format is GREAT - but bring back the country option - so you can just pick events in the British isles - its driving me barmy now
Anywhere else you can pull up the IGI?
Anyone have a subscription to the Geneologist site?
Tried it out on a free trial a couple of years ago & it didn't have the PR's for the areas I wanted - just wondered if anything had changed.
Well better go back to the work zone - had no emails for for over 4 hours - barmy
Take care all

Anne, if you scroll down to the bottom of the IGI page, I think you can pull up the old version. I too prefer the old to the new.....maybe it's an age thing!!
Dr. Who? I can't be the only one who remembers William Hartnell can I? He was followed by Patrick Troughton. I used to watch it when the children were young but it doesn't interest me at all now. Much prefer a good old murder mystery!
Maybe we should now start calling Sylvia our 'executive' member - it goes along nicely with our 'Venerable' Robert....lol
Fog, fog and more fog here today. Don't mind really as long as it isn't snow.
Wayno, stop teasing us with your hot weather...it was -2 when I went out before.....brrrr
As for Frank's comment about size....well, I shall put my nose in the air and ignore him. Humph.
Hey ho, the ironing is calling me.............so I had better obey.....as a good little woman!!
See you all soon Cx
