Regarding the England and Wales FreeBMD site and the Free Family Search site used in England. Please could someone tell me if there are similiar sites for use in Australia? thankyou Sue.

Hi Susan,

As far as I'm aware it is only by state not Australia wide. I'm in Sydney so NSW site is www.bdm.nsw.gov.au. Go to the family history section and you can look up Births etc.

Hi Susan.
I have found the following very useful, though they aren't strictly BMD sites.

http://ryersonindex.net/search.php
lists a lot of death notices.

http://trove.nla.gov.au/
allows newspaper searches among other things.

Both very useful for Sydney area.

You can also try the Australian Births, Deaths & Marriages Exchange.

Not many people are aware of this site.

You can join as a "Fee" member( User Registration ) or just do a simple *Surname* search.
