Hi George,

If you need to order a New South Wales certificate try www.joymurrin.com.au.

She has a transcription service where you can get her to transcribe some or all of the certificate. A full certificate is approximately A$10 cheaper than buying the certified copy.

It depends on which state your relatives were from. Western Australia, NSW and Queensland each have free online indexes; Victoria has an online index but there's a small charge (90c per page) to see the results of your search. None of the states publish BMD indexes for more recent events - which generally means births less than 100 years ago, marriages less than 60 years and deaths less than 30 years (the actual cut-off dates vary by state). Links to what is available here: http://www.coraweb.com.au/bdmau.htm

Cheers,
Richard

Does anyone know of any free web sites that one can trace Australian relatives through (like our Freebmd). I have recently had to pay $28 for a certificate and it could get costly trying to trace family this way.

thanks all in anticipation
