Australian Birth Records

Hi Alan -

If you are not able to buy the birth certificate you want - try for a death certificate of the mother or father. Australian death certs are hugely informative and give details of ALL babies born to that person, whether they are dead or alive - AND that persons own parents assuming that it is known to the person informing the registrar of the death.

Alan, you are only allowed to obtain your own birth cert or one that is over one hundred years old. The rules are quite strict in Australia.

You get them from the same website: http://www.justice.qld.gov.au/justice-services/births-deaths-and-marriages/births/birth-certificate#applying

Thanks Ozi, so do I go to the relevant state's website to search? I'm looking for the birth of someone born in Brisbane

Australian birth records are done by the states so you need to know which state the person was born.

If you know the state search for the BDM (note they switch the M & D around in Australia).
