To find this info again you have two choices....

1. At the top of the page you will see a purple button 'Bookmark this' (Next to purple button 'Reply')
Click the 'Bookmark this' and it will be saved.
To retrieve the info look at the list to the left of this page and under 'Tools' you will see 'My Bookmarks'. Click on that and you will then be able to retrieve this thread.

OR

2. Copy and paste the info to a word document on your computer.

On Ancestry "uk census collection"
Enter vessels in civil parish and you will find those onboard all ships.
Enter a ship's name in "keyword" if you know it.
But actually they should show on a normal search.

I will have to save this somewhere on my comp but not sue whee or how I can save something on a thread??????

My Grandad. who was a Royal Marine, is on the census for l9ll, on the ship in Gibraltar

Can anyone kindly tell me what the situation was with English mariners at census times. Were they only recorded if their ships were in port on census night or did they do a census on board ship!
