Nothing from Ancestry itself as I know of (I am looking for one myself for when my sub expires next month).

The best deal seems to be to purchase a copy of Family Tree Maker 2010 which comes with a 6 month Ancestry subscription thown in. Available from various sources such as the one below but I understand can be purchased even cheaper by redeeming Tesco vouchers.

I bought the 2010 FTM with 6 months Ancestry for 24.99 GBP.

If you can't get a better deal and want to know where I bought it just let me know and I'll dig out the info for you.

Hi Christine

Sorry for delay in replying but I've only just come back on line.

I bought my FTM from TWR Computing - www.twrcomputing.co.uk. telephone 0044 1709 580066 - assuming you are in Portugal.

I have just looked at the invoice and I actually bought the 2009 Platinum UK Edition NOT 2010 sorry for the mistake. I don't know what differences there are between the two.

They also had 2010 but not sure of the price. Have a look at the site.

I already have Ancestry so I phoned them to ask about adding my 6 months to the end of my current subscription. I have to contact them just before my expiry date, give them my activation code, that comes with the disk, and they will add it on for me.

The 6 months free is for Essentials and I have Premium so I hope to be able to pay the extra to upgrade it to Premium. I read on here somewhere that some else had done that.

They posted my FTM to Tenerife and it was postage free so the only payment I made via credit card was for 24.95 GBP

Hi Wendy,

Thanks, I have used TWR computing before, they only have the 2009 with 3mths subscription now for £18.95.

2010 is about £42 I think. I probably need the 2010 to work with Windows 7 but I will check it out, maybe I'll ask my son if they have any spare Tesco vouchers, lol.

Not sure if this offer is still available but have a look at this thread

I decided to have a look to see what I could spend my clubcard vouchers on, cinema....nights out.... software..... I then selected it and for just £15 worth of club card vouchers you can purchase the Platinum version of Family Tree Maker, ( I already have it and it's great!) the reason why I'm writing this is that for those of you that don't know.... the software comes with 6months FREE Ancestry essentials membership, well at least it should, check it out. The Ancestry website currently charge £59.99 and Amazon £35.97.

EDIT

Here is a link to the Tesco site

I'm currently doing a 2 week free trial with Ancestry and have to decide what to do next.

The Tesco deal looks really good, but I only use Mac's and the site says that it requires Windows XP. I might be able to run it on Parallels, but I'm not very tech minded. Does anyone know if I can get this to work on my Mac.

Frances
Family tree maker is windows only either xp vista or W7

You can run it in vmware on the mac so likely on parallells as well.

Although bear in mind you do need a legal copy of windows

Thanks for the reply Sue. My husband is now home from work and says it should work fine on Parallels. Don't worry, all our software is legal.

My word, that's a good offer! And £27 quid of vouchers dropped through the letterbox yesterday :-)

You do have to send off your vouchers and they send you another voucher for the software to post off. It said allow 28 days for delivery - I posted mine off on a Monday and had the software in my hot little sweaty hands on the Thursday. Great service and a great deal!

I swapped free essentials for premium membership on Ancestry for the reduced price of about £50 for the year
I used the tesco deal for the FTM 2010 package in the first place. Then rang Ancestry and asked if i could offset the free essentials against the annual premium package. They said yes.

Apparently there's a Mac version of FTM coming out later this year, so I'll wait a while and see what happens.
My iMac's about 5 years old now and OH says running Windows is not viable on my machine :-(

Thank you for this thread, it's been interesting
