Hi LancashireAnn,

Thank you for your reply.

I have now read both articles, just wish I could confirm his fathers name.
I think I will have to see what Australian records I can find to see if father is named on any of those.

Thanks to you and LondonBelle for your help.

sorry Chris I misled you there. Did you manage to find both articles?

the Thomas named is of course his partner in crime Thomas

the second one which mentions the transportation only comes up with search term James Hyde - can't remember the title on Sept 8th - think it was 'local news'

I tried looking at the blacksheep index but could not find him there

LancashireAnn,

Thank you so much for your help.

I have now read the entry where it mentions James Hyde 19 and Thomas Owen 16 were found guilty of assault and robberry under the heading Assize Intelligence, but I can't find where it mentions that James's father is named Thomas.

Could you please explain where I can find it.

Thank you

Chris

to get the results you want search the 19th century newspapers between july & sept 1826 with search key of 'hyde and shropshire'. You will find the article on Aug 11th in the Worcester journal - father named in this one

edit - will probably give the same result if you use james hyde as a search term - same paper sept 8th as well

Thanks to Joneseys tip about Lancashire libraries online, I've been having a look on there but nothing seems to be coming up. Don't know if I'm not searching properly.

You might try local newspapers for 1836 to see whether they give an account of the trial

Hi Londonbelle,

Thank you for your reply.

Yes that is him, I just don't know where to look to read about the trial. Someone has read about the trial and apparently it named his father as Thomas. I would love to be able to read it.

Could someone please advise me how to find records for a trial which took place around 1836/1837.

I have been told that a James Hyde committed Highway Robbery at Dawley Magna Shropshire in that year. He was given a life sentence and sent to Australia.

Apparently in the trial records his father was named as Thomas which would tie in with my James.
