I have exported my family tree from Genes and the file has been emailed to me as a Gedcom file. I am trying to import it into my Family Tree program. I can't open the Gedcom File, it keeps asking what program to use to open it and I put word so now it just gives the information as a word document and I cant import it into my family tree file. Can anyone help please. Chris

I think you have posted this query twice Chris. Delete one of the requests.

I have never heard of Eureka, maybe others haven't either, which might be why you haven't had any replies.

I suspect that you have tried to open the file by double clicking on it and as your computer didn't recognise the file type, you have now managed to associate it with word.

To unassociate it, Open My Computer and under Tools, click Folder options, and then click File types. Scroll down to the extension, (i.e. .ged) and delete it from the list.

Not familiar with Eureka but just had a quick look at it on the web. It would appear to have an option to import a gedcom file so as far as I can tell you just run that. You will need to save the file GR sent you to your hard disc first.

Thanks for the advice, I have now successfully imported the file.
