Over the past month or so I have been driven to distraction by this site. I really don't think I am to blame although I am not very conversant with computers. I have just discovered, with the help and suggestions of many people that I can access the site through Google chrome however, I now keep getting Bad Request [ Invalid Verb] Has anyone the patience to help me please ?

I really don't think you will have got my reply as I can't even access My threads or your reply without getting - Bad Request [ Invalid Verb]. I seem to be able to get a connection once in about six shots.
Please let me say in advance Thank You for trying to help me , as I can't rely on getting back to you !
I now access the site through GoogleChrome as I couldn't get there in the usual way, I just kept getting Error 400.
I have just become a platinum member so that I can get the 1911 census but, to my disappointment, I haven't been able to find much so far.
I have just had my computer looked at and I don't get problems on any other site. I am at a loss to know what to do next.

Hi...are you using bookmarks or favourites to access the site you want? Have you tried just typing the genesreunited into the address bar and relaoding your membership username and password?

I use google chrome with no problem.

Or perhaps when you downloaded google chrome it didn't quite finish.

That's the best I can offer I'm afraid..I'm pretty useless myself with the darned thing!!

Thank you so much both of you. Suzi, I can't use favourites like I used to, that doesn't work, so I just put Genes etc. in the top bar and log in each time. Can then get the search but when I ask to view the details - it goes to Bad Request.. For the last 15 mins or so I have been aware that I had another reply but was unable to read it. All very frustrating, but thanks for your help. Think I will get my eight grandchildren to see what they think, one by one.

I think you need to e-mail genes helpdesk. It's letting me into search ok.

Suzi,
I have been desperately trying to read your reply all this time and have finally got it, for the moment. Are you able to tell me how to get the help desk ? Many thanks.

Click on "Help" at the top right of this page then click on Contact us. Unfortunately GR is not contactable by telephone, only by email.

Jennifer, I only use Google Chrome and haven't had any problem. Have you tried through another search engine such as Explorer?

I hope you get it sorted.

Thank you SO MUCH everyone. I am sure there must be someone out there that is also having problems and I hope they will have been helped as well. Being a complete beginner at this pastime it is so comforting to know you are all there. I would like to say that the only reason I started using a computer at the age of 70 was that I was advised it might help me recover from a stroke. In fact it has enabled me to keep my sanity during the long process of recovery, and now I am totally hooked on researching my family tree. Thank you all.

Hi Jennifer,
Having a look on line it seems it may be a problem with your security system blocking the site or with cookies.
I use Firefox and their help page has a lot of entries for this problem.
I suggest you go to the help page for your browser, Chrome or whatever else you normally use (it's usually on a drop down menu at the top of the page) and type Bad Request [ Invalid Verb] in the help search box, with a bit of luck the answer may be there.

Good luck,
Mayfield.

Jennifer, just went to Google Crome help page and it was quite difficult to find anything but eventually I did.

From the website:

4/1/09
I believe I found a fix for this....so far it is working well.
Google Chrome was working awesome...until one day I kept getting Bad Request problems when accessing certain sites. This happened no matter what I did with cleaning out the temp files, computer, or whatever. For 1 week this kept stumping me and I found nothing in the forums for help.

Today...I went to my Advanced System Care settings and UNBLOCKED all sites and advertisements it felt "needed to be blocked" (I am sure Spybot Immunizing is the same). I then rebooted the computer and I can access all sites I could not access with Google Chrome before, (it would go to some...but Bad Request on others). I then went back and Immunized all the sites again to see if I could "recreate" the issue and rebooted. Upon reboot I can still access EVERY site that showed a "Bad Request" previously.

Now if you're not sure how to do this ask one of your grandchildren. They have no fear of making a mistake!

Well, I've never even heard of Google Chrome, and at only 58 I feel a real noddy at computers, and by the way Jennifer, I've also had a stroke, but sadly it didn't trigger any forsight into computers!

Hope you get it sorted.

And glad you are hooked.
