If she was 90 in April 1988 then she could still have had another birthday in 1988 so she may have been in her 91st year , a birth reg in late 1897 could well have been her.
Census were taken in the early part of the year so the ages were at the last birthday , so someone born after March April the previous year would appear to be a year younger than their actual birth year

The age will be correct because she would have been 90 oct/nov/dec qtr 1987.

Bedale is the name of the registration district of which Mashom is one of the towns/villages encompassed within the Bedale district.

As far as the memorial is concerned, after about 90 years it is quite possible that Hilda or those who had the stone erected were unsure about her true age.

Researching:
Don't put off until tomorrow doing what you can do today. If you like doing it today you can do it again tomorrow. Be kind to your children for it is they who will decide which care home you end up in.

Please excuse me if i am on the wrong board.

I have two questions which i am sure some kind person can help me with.

Free BMD has Hilda Pickersgill born 1897 Oct Nov Dec in Bedale Yorkshire.
A gravestone says Hilda died on 19/4/1988 age 90.
So no maths head on today would 1897 be the correct birth date.
I have not looked at the 1901 or 1911 census but they appear to say Hilda was born abt 1898 in Masham,
If i click on Bedale on free BMD a list appears which includes Mashom,si was Hilda born in Bedale or Mashom.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
