I remember you well, Paul. As a matter of fact I'm still looking for that Tilton fellow who was last seen on a boat heading west.

Ha ha! This is somebody I've been corresponding with and the information has come from me!

How are you, Margaret? Remember we corresponded about the Stewart children? It turns out that my Great Grandfather was not brought up in rural Ireland after all, but in the most squalid part of Whitechapel, London, and had obscured his upbringing to the whole family. After searching Irish records for five years I found him being baptised in Whitechapel at a year old and then that led me to the family on the 1871 census with mis-spelled surnames!

There's a tree on Ancestry that has Richard Wilmshurst born 1767, London and died 1861, St. Leonard, Shoreditch. He was married to Louisa born 1770. children were:
Louisa 1790-1873
Matilda 1802-1876
William 1806-1867

This note is attached:

name:RichardKnown as: Middle name: Occupation: Surname:(Father)Date of birth: Year of birth:1767Date of baptism: Gender:MaleYear of death:1842 Source of data: Place of birth:UnknownPlace of baptism: Place of death:No 1 East London PlaceNotes:Richard was a tailor. He died aged 75 years registerd by Matilda Maud who was present at his death and who lived at No 23 Prospect Place. Perhaps she was his daughter. She was married to Michael Maud, a wool broker from Leeds. She was born 1802 in New York, America! There is a possibility that she is William Henry Wilmshurst's sister. Later on (in 1871) she had her sister Louisa Newport living with her and she was born in Baltimore 1794.

Do you subscribe to Archives.com? For me, it is not woth taking out a subription on the chance of an answer to one question, but I wonder if somebody with a subscription would be kind enough to do a lookup for me.

My ancestor Richard Wilmshurst and his wife Margaret went from London to Baltimore in 1793. He had a daugther Louisa in 1794, Amelia in 1795, then moved to New York where he had Mary in 1798, Matilda 1802 , William 1806 and Harriet 1807.
There may have been other children at this time.

If you could find anything about the family I'd be grateful.
