While looking at the 1861 census online i found that under the status heading two of my possible ancestors were described as Copham. What does this mean? it has been pointed out to me that it looks similar to orphan. is this likely to be a mistranscription error or something else? help please.
Robert Newby age 14
James Newby age 10
Both location- St Petermountergate, Norwich, Norfolk and both born in Norwich. Head of Household is William Newby (possibly Robert and James elder brother?)

If you want to put the names/ages and area up some of us could take a look?

when you say under the "status heading," do you mean you were looking at the transcript or at the actual image of the census page??

If the former, then it is likely to be a transcription error ....... the modern day transcriber being unable to read the old writing.

If on the image, then it may be matter of bad writing.

As Jill said .... put up the names and we'll have a look

HOWEVER ......... your header sounds as though you already have a thread on the people concerned ....... and you really should not be starting new threads on the same people..

You could have asked this question on the first thread!
