Thanks so much Lynne, very interesting, especially as I live in Derby & know most of the streets & areas mentioned.

What shocked me most was the public whippings & private whippings as punishments - & in 1788 the case of a man who poisoned his brother, was executed & his body publicly dissected!! You could also be done for failing to maintain your aged parents!! or allowing your young children to go out after 9pm on the streets selling matches. OMG - Unbelievable.
