An ancestor of mine served in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlander regiment. He is said to have been 'boarded on 6/6/1917 and reclassified in category c111 (c3).' He does not appear to have seen action as he was a clerk.
Thanks

Have you tried googling the name of the Regiment - they should have a website, with a contact us facility. They should be able to tell you.

I would guess he (or his case) went before some board or other, presumably the one that reclassified him, so maybe a medical board?

Here in NZ we had the following categories in WW1
but not sure if this is of any help:-

A1 Fit for Active Service
B1 Able to be made fit by medical treatment
C1 Likely to become fit for service overseas after special training
C2 Permanently unfit for Active Service but fit for service in NZ (probably a bit like Dad's Army)
D Permanently Unfit

Why don't you e-mail [email protected]
This is their e-mail address for "The Thin Red Line" the Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders magazine and someone there is sure to know.
