Gwyn,

When I worked at the Post Office in the early seventies as the Registrar of Births and Deaths (we didn't do Marriages) at Birkenhead on the North Shore in Auckland as far as I can remember we just put the suburb where born.
In those days I used to handwrite them in these big books - our office only did the deaths for the local funeral director. Before 1974 this all changed - I was working elsewhere for the Post Office - but they had then done away with the big registry books and replaces them with typed pages in folders.
I really liked the old format - had this Dickensian feel about it and looked more real somehow.

Cheers Persey xx

I was surprised to see that on fairly recent births,( in 1980s ) a full place of birth was not shown on niece's birth certificates,- just Auckland.
With such wonderful full information on other parts of the certificate, this seemed strange.

Thanks, Persey

I am very appreciated of what you have supplied. I now can apply for marriage certificate to see who parents are. Thank you again.

Marriage Certificate: when and where married his and her names and ages both professions though sometimes the women's is blank, then Bachelor or widower, Spinster or widow and I think if widow or widower date of former husband or wife Birthplace then residence - sometimes this lists address but more than likely just place like Onehunga (which is a suburb of Auckland) and then father's name and occupation of both bride and groom and Mothers name and maiden surname. Then either the vicar, or registrar's name and a couple of witnesses.

Deceased - these vary a handwritten one would probably have when and where died, name, occupation, cause of death, and often when Doctor last saw deceased, Name and surname of father and mother and profession of father. Some have when and where buried. Deceased's birthplace and how long in New Zealand. Sometimes signature of informant and registrar and date of registration.
On a lot of the typed ones it will list the ages of the children under M and F at the time of deceased's death.
But remember these do vary and particulars are only as good as whoever completed the register form. Often Parish/church ones are better than the Registry.

Birth: When and where born and place of registry office on hand written one. Name of child - Name and surname of father his rank or profession age and birthplace - this can also have parents marriage date and where married. Name and maiden surname of mother age and birthplace. Signature of informant description eg father and Residence which can just be the town and then the date registered and the signature of the registrar. There is also a space for name if added or altered after registration of birth.
