As he is so young, I just wonder if it would be more sensible to contact his grandparents if you can find them?

Thanks. Jean has given me some possible leads. The surname is Joyce so there are quite a few. I also had a look at Facebook but nothing stood up and grabbed me.

If he's now 18 he should be on the electoral roll. Jean has a thread on the Records Board doing electoral roll look ups. Perhaps you could send her a private message with the details and see if she can help.

That is, assuming the mother didn't change the child's name of course.

If you have Ancestry you could see if there was a marriage for the young lady between 1991 and 2005. If not, send me a PM and I'll see what I can find as, if she did marry, the grandchild may be using her married name.

EDIT - snap brummiejan!!

If this person is 18 he should be on the electoral register. Jean has a thread on Records Office called "WHO ARE YOU LOOKING FOR".
Alternatively, what about facebook? A lot depends on how unusual his name is obviously.

With my interst in my Family Research my cousin has asked me to try and locate her grandson who was born in Torquay in Dec 1991.
His parents were at school at the time so the son was born and the mother and child moved away to Exeter. My cousin thinks her grandson was brought up by the mothers parents. He's 18 now. We have no idea what happened to the mother but presumably she would have married. My cousins son (the father) is currently in the army in Afganistan. Can anyone suggest how I could find the grandchild? He must have gone to school in Devon and possibly persuing some form of further education. My cousin has had no contact with the mother or her parents since the difficult time when the grandson was born. My cousins son has since married and has three lovely children. They would love to know that the grandson/son is OK. Any help much appreciated.
