Hi Jan Thanks for all your help it looks as though it's now the A34, so nothing left to explore. I will contact Carl Chinn later today to see if he as any old photo's or pictures. Thankyou

I've driven along there many a time in the past and from what I can remember there are no old buildings left on the road itself, though there are some in roads off it. If I happen that way again I'll check!
Meanwhile I think Carl Chinn is your best bet.
That Kings Norton district had me very confused when I started out. I live very near to the current Kings Norton and got excited when I found ancestors living there 1871 (it's quite posh) - only to find they lived in back-to-backs in Balsall Heath!!

Highgate Road is in Birmingham postcode B12. Today it is virtually an urban clearway so I am afraid that a visit will not reveal much about its past. You can view it on Google Earth, Just enter Highgate Rd Birmingham UK in the search box.

One last word! As far as I can tell there is no Highgate Lane now, though a lot of Highgate somethings (and even just Highgate!).
Had a look on 1911 for anyone living Highgate Lane Kings Norton with no result. Are you 100% sure you have it right?

Hi Jan I'am sure if i contact the Central Library they will be able to point me in the right direction, i did think it was on the outskirts until talking to the brummie today, when he said get off at new street train station, get a cab and you will be there in two minutes. Thankyou all once again on this.

I wonder if Kings Norton Library just covers the current suburb though? Kings Norton rehistration district covered a huge area in past years, up to what would now be inner city Birmingham! So Birmingham Central Library would be your next step.

E-mail your question to [email protected] for the attention of Triona Sabell who is the Assistant Community Librarian.
There are loads of old maps and photos of Kings Norton through the ages kept at the Library.
Good luck
