If you 'google' The George, Cranbrook you will get more information. It dates from the 1300's so there should be much recorded about it.

OH and I were to stay there this week but because of his serious illness we have had to cancel. We are still hoping to get there in the future.

Good luck with your searches.

Thank you Beverley. Anything about the Wilmshursts would be good. If you find a grave with the name of Wilmshurst or Drowley that would be brilliant. Please don't inconvenience yourself though - some time in the summer I'm sure I'll be able to drive down there!

When trying to do similar research myself I have found people on the site www.rootschat.com very helpful.

The site which is free has individual message boards for each county. In the past I have found that my posts on the site have usually come up trumps in getting a response from people who either lived or worked in the area local to where I was interested in. They have visited graveyards, photographed buildings and gone to their local archive, all on my behalf, bless them.

It might be worth a go.

Good luck.

Does anybody have local knowledge of Cranbrook? I think i've exhausted all the online methods of researching my Wilshurst ancestors - they ran the George and then the Bull in Stone Street in the mid to late 1700's - and I won't have an opportunity to drive down there for a while. I'm hoping somebody might suggest a cotact I haven't tried yet.
