Hi to all

Its not often I get stuck with research, but now I am. I wish to find where my great grandmother was between 1901 and 1915.

She was Annie Louisa Earl born 1898 Glossop, Derbyshire to William Earl b1862 Surrey & Mary (late) Walton formerley Joyce b 1858 Glossop.

Annie appears in the 1901 census living with her parents in Derby. Shortly after 1901 the family moved to Mansfield ,Notts.
In the 1911 census Annie is not living with her parents in mansfield. Annie did not marry William Baggaley in Mansfield until july 1915, so where was she between 1901 and 1915 ?

I subscribed to the 1911 census and have searched it high and low for my Annie, but to no avail. My mum recons that when Annie was a child she was sent to live with ...possibly her grandparents who were Irish ..the Joyce family.

I have never had the full subscription to ancestry to be able to view the incoming/outgoing passenger lists. Could someone who has access to these do a look up for me please to see if Annie Louisa Earl did leave England and return between 1901 & 1915. Her grandparenst were Patrick & Ann Joyce b 1829 and 1826 respectively. Patrick and Ann lived in Glossop and appear upto the 1871c but not after, so I wonder if they went back to Ireland.

any help is appreciated.

Not sure there are any passenger lists to/from Ireland.

You can search the 1911 Irish census here:

Thanks for the link Rose, I just checked it , there is a Annie Earl in Co Carlow but she is born in Ire and only age 10, my Annie would be 13.

So are you saying that passenger ships to and from Ire are
not registered on ancestry ?. Please forgive my ignorance as I know nothing about passenger lists as I have never needed to look into them.

Simon

All of Ireland was part of the UK, ships to and from ireland were ferries ............... and no passenger lists were kept on ferries.

and that still applies in msot parts of the world today.

so it is impossible to find people moving back and forth from England to ireland.

I wonder if there is a mistranscription here.

Entering Annie born 1898 +/- 1 born Glossop
gives Annie L Earl in 1901 in between Buckley and Elliott

In the 1911 indexes Buckley and Elliott are there with Clarke and Done between them. I wonder if someone could check these two out to see if one of these is the missing Annie mistranscribed.
