I've just discovered that my gt grandparent's adopted a child. I know she was called Valerie but don't know how old she was or when she was adopted.

At a guess I'd say the time frame would be around 1920 - 1930's for the adoption.

Just wondered if she was adopted when she was 5 or 6 would her birth certificate be amended to her new name or would she have to be re-registered?

Thanks very much for any adivce you can give me.

Regards, Lou

Hi Jonesey,

Many many thanks for suppling me with such a lot of info regarding adoptions. I was aware of some of it but not the majority of what you've given me, so that's been very helpfull. What a book full of knowledge you are! and I'm so gratefull for your help.

My aunt told me about her the other day but couldn't remember if she was leagally adopted. Just now I had an email confirming that she was plus a usefull snippet of info saying that she'd received a certificate from school for never ever having had a day off since the day she started school right to the last day of her education. And I must say that's some achievement.

So I think I will start with school records, at least that might give me some more info on her.

Thanks again Jonesey, your help has been much appreciated.

Regards and Good Luck to you

Lou
