As far as I can tell there is no under 16 restriction when ordering on line, so I have no idea where that suggestion came from. I think you were being fobbed off.....!

I have just ordered the birth cert for my grandson - or at least have entered all the details which have been accepted, up to the point where you go to the checkout - with no problem at all.

You do need to provide just about everything such as full dob and mother and father's full names as all these fields are mandatory.

Glad its sorted ,
Some time ago when the LRO was still open i used to go there with my FHS and look up the BIG ledgers for BMDS and order the certs there. My sis in Canada needed certified copies of her marriage cert , her & her OH birth certs, and her daughters cert as they were taking Canadian citizenship and photo copies weren't acceptable I had to take her email request with the order forms and explain why they were needed and get the forms authorised before they would put through the order ,all this because they were under 50 years old

Hi Shirley i'm getting the hang of it,
and Contrary Mary .
I phoned the GRO this morning and was able to get the birth cert
that i wanted they are going to send it Priority which is dearer but son said that doesn't matter as he needs it sooner rather than later ..
She also said that why i couldn't get anywhere on line with it, was because she was a minor ..under 16 yrs old ..
thank you both for your help .

The format for entering the date is

dd/mm/yyyy i.e. 12/04/1995

you need the slashes, and four numbers for the year, no spaces the year must also correspond with the year that you have entered on the first page.

Just tested it now and it works!

Try putting 22 04 95.

It's asking for just 2 digits for the year not 4.

Too many digits in the year? It's asking for 2 digits and you're putting 4?
