Can anyone tell me why people might not appear in the 1911 census? I'm looking for Richard Teague (b 1849 d 1924) and his wife Emily (born c 1862 nee Craven) who I expected to be living in Amersham Bucks at the time of the census but I can't find them.

Thank you

Sue

to answer your question

people may not appear on the 1911 Census, or on any other census, for several reasons

the most usual one ........ is that you are just not finding them because their name has been mistranscribed from the original OR the enumerator spelt it wrongly in the first place

Another possibility is that an error may have been made so that the name of one household is mistakenly also applied to the next household as well.

Third ..... they might have been away from home, and you are asking for a search of only one place

Fourth, they might genuinely have been missed, OR there might be a part of the census that is missing or has not been transcribed OR pages of the original were damaged

Fifth, they might have changed their name

and finally .... they migth be dead or have emigrated.

One has to get sneaky when searching a census ........ and usually putting in less rather than more information is the answer.

In your case, it appears that a simple mis-transcription was the answer.

How to find them??

well, try putting in ONLY first name, birth year and place

Or try searching on the place, which can be done quite easily on the 1911 census site itself ...... I'm not sure about on findmypast
