Hi MaryMc
I have been searching the1911 census for my Gt Grandfather Henry/Harry Makepeace ,1864 Bricklayers Labourer,I know he was in Prison in Birmingham at the time of the census.The search using Initials has only shown me Patients in Asylums,I haven't had any come up with 'Prisoner'.

You're welcome - good luck with the rest of your tree.

As a helpful hint to anyone else - inmates are nearly always listed by initial only, so the more info you already know the better.

the person has been found,so prison and mental institutions are on the 1911 census.

I am not sure if you can search by institution,someone did an 1911 search for me and i used the free 90 minutes search but was unable to find the person.

I'm guessing they should be as I found workhouse ones though it was the infirmary.
