A personal request, but would you please let us know how you get on with your contact? Perhaps by private message. We are keen to know how it goes.

Hi Jacqueline

This could be a difficult contact for you. If you didn't previously know who your father was I wonder why he has put a tree on here with you and your brother in it. Which totally violates all the rules of not putting living people in trees, and some people on here reading this will be smiling to themselves cos I am an advocate of not doing that.

However, it has enabled you to make a connection.

So, why has your father put you on his tree? It would seem to me to be either carelessness, or a deliberate method of trying to find you. Don't raise your hopes to much, it could be due to carelessness.

Has he got any other people in his tree that you can find?. Try searching trees for your mother, or his mother, or his siblings. Has he got them too?

So what are you now going to do?

Hmm. If it were me, I'd keep quiet at first about who you are. I'd email him and say I have a Jane Doe born xxxx in London in my tree who is the daughter of John Doe born xxxx and Mary Smith born xxxx Mary Smith was the daughter of Fred Smith born Sheffield xxxx and Ann Jones born Scarborough xxxx. Do you think it is the same family? Please get in touch.

And see what happens.

At that point, he does not know you are the Jane Doe in his tree, so you can see how he responds.

He might not respond at all of course. But somehow I think he will.

Fingers crossed for you. Tread carefully. Baby steps.

I think....your father has put your name and your brother's on his tree, but not his own name which is why it doesn't appear when you search.

when you find him as tree owner you should be able to click on his name and send a message?
