Luckily my grandfather made it easy for me...his occupation on the census gave his occup as 1st Kings Dragoons-Chelsea Pensioner.

The 1st King's merged with The Queen's Bays and became 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards.

The Regimental Museum is in Cardiff they may be able to help. Website address...

I was very lucky to find and order my 4x gt grandfather's discharge papers online at the National Archives. They were very impressive if not somewhat faded as you would expect considering the age. A lovely piece of my family history.

The transcription on free reg says for fathers occupation 'th Dragoon Guards' so could this eliminate 1st 2nd and 3rd?

The question is, which Dragoon Guards? The National Archives has Muster Rolls but there was 1st, 2nd, 3rd 4th, 5th 6th and 7th!

My 4x gt grandfather served with the 1st King's Dragoon Guards (Cavelry) in Dublin during the 1830's if that's any help.

Thanks for trying, I had already checked those but don't have full access. Thought someone might have been able to identify the regiment of dragoon guards given the dates that Isaac was stationed at Nottingham and Dublin

All surviving discharge papers for those discharged from the Army up to 1854 are name indexed on the National Archives catalogue and I'm afraid there's nothing for him. Those who were discharged 1855 onwards are on the findmypast site and there's nothing there either.

You could check the Regimental births on the Findmypast site, although they are by no means complete.

Can anybody offer any help, advice or further information? I have an Isaac Cartledge born Scotland about 1801, he married Mary Bryan also born Scotland about 1803. Not sure when they married. However, I'm trying to find information about a possible army career and birth of 2 of their children. Mary was born in 1826 in Nottingham Barracks, father's occupation dragoon guard. David was born in Dublin Barracks in 1830 but I can't find any further information about his birth. Subsequent children were all born in the Manchester area.

Is there any way of finding which regiment Isaac served in and details of David's birth?
