Hi All
Could someone please tell me of the best sites to look up Parish Records or purchase relative CD's. I reside in Australia and cannot visit the council offices to view micro fiche. Ihave traced my family back through the Census records to Edward Suckling DOB about 1786 in Barking Essex who was married to Sarah Willcocks DOB about 1791 in Cranham Essex. I now need to access parish records to continue my research but I am not aware of internet sites or CD's that would help me in this quest.
I would be greatfull for any help you could give me.

Your local Mormons' Family History Centre stock some; you can enquire there.
Family history societies have them for their geographical areas.
Also, they can be purchased from companies such as
http://www.genealogysupplies.com/
http://www.parishchest.com/

There are parish records here
http://www.familysearch.org/
and others can be found by searching sometimes online.

There is also
http://freereg.rootsweb.com/index.htm

And there are online parish clerks that voluntarily transcribe them and do lookups.

Hi Ray,
Before buying DVD's etc I type say " Cranham, Essex Parish Records online" into search engine and it is amazing the information that evolves. Usually as a minimum gives a very good background of the history of the area and often parish records and memorial inscriptions kindly transcribed free of charge.

"CRANHAM, a parish containing a few scattered houses, pleasantly situated about 4 miles from Romford railway station, 1 mile from Upminster, and 2 miles from Hornchurch. It is in the Chafford hundred and Romford union. Population in 1861 was 341"

google essex opc

opc = Online Parish Clerk Project

You may or may not find anything

otherwise it's the Mormon site (www.familysearch.org) ......... but please do be aware that SUBMITTED records have been sent in by individuals, usually LDS church members, and have no backing documentation so it is almost impossible to tell how accurate they are ............... such records do however give you an idea of where to search for the actual records.

You want the EXTRACTED records, transcribed from the actual parish records.

You might also want to try

www.freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers.htm

Hugh Wallis got fed up wading his way through the Submitted vs Extracted records on familysearch, so he took all the extracted records and put them on his own site.

Unfortunately, he hasn't updated the information since about 2004.

www.ancestry.co.uk also has some early Parish records, and are slowly adding more and mroe

Thank you very much for your advice, I will look up those sites and see what I can find. It would be lovely to visit the Essex area to see just what it is like as all this research is making me very curious.
Thank you all once again as it is great to know that their are people out there who are willing to help.

Regards
Ray.............
