Is there any source online that would give ships crew lists. My grandfather sailed from Liverpool Docks about 1892, on a ship heading for Australia on a two year voyage.

As I think he signed on using his mothers maiden name.

Do you have a subsription to Ancestry, as I would think that it maybe on there?

If not pop what you know; names, Year of birth etc.. and we'll see what we can find.

Hello Dee,

Sorry for the delay in replying but I had to go t the shops.

My grandfather was John Roberts, but I think he may well have signed on as John Maudesley/Mawdsley.

He was born in 1874 in Bootle, Lancashire.

He did not have a trade, other than he worked in his stepfathers bakery

Many thanks for all your interest. Yes these are my grandparents, but finding granddad prior to 1901 has been a challenge. His missing census is 1891, I have found his mother but not him, maybe this was the year he went to Aus.

Hi, if you don't have a subscription to ancestry then check wih your local library as many of them have free access to the total ancestry files and joining the library is free. its worth a try good luck M
