According to a relatives WW1 record he was given a discharge because he was no longer fit due to enemy action and the abreviation GS4 . Does anyone know what GS 4 means?

You could try the 'Long,Long Trail' site which is brilliant for information relating to the British Army in the First World War.

If you can't find the answer then add your question to their forum 'Ask Away'. There are alot of knowledable people on there.

Good luck

Usually the reason given is KR 392 followed by a number - this relates to Kings Regulations. Does it say something like that?

Are you sure it doesn't say GSW, which is the usual abbreviation for gunshot wound?

Yes Mary, with a little imagination GSW is what it is. And a bad case of doctors writting!
Thank you for that.
