Thanks all.

I was surprised that the elder was a draper as in the 1840s He was in in Broad St Canterbury and I believe he was then a grocer or greengrocer, if my memmory serves me correctly. I have a file with a few copies of letters from him, but cannot find it at present.

On the 1881 census it's the father Robert Young Banks who is the baptist minister. He's a widower living with his daughter Catherine West who is a widow.

Edit: Oops sorry you knew that.

There are two people with this name and I am trying to find out if they are father and son. Someone suggested that they may be some other relation.

In 1881 the elder, was a baptist minister aged 70, in Bridge , Kent, with his daughter, from 1868 he was minister of Egerton Baptist Chapel, Kent.
The younger, born 1850, was in Portsea as a Fancy Draper aged 31
In the 1870s one of them was a founder member of Faversham Baptist Church, but I am not sure which one, probably the younger.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks

David
