Good Morning!
Please can anyone help? I decided last night to set up what I thought was an off line family tree programme. I looked at My Heritage and after Iooking at it thought no it wants me to log on I won't do that now and seek advice if that is the best one. I now find the site has taken over! It is on my tool bar and has got rid of my original home page which is BBC. How can I restore to my settings and get rid of the pesky thing on my tool bar?
a) what did I do?
b) how can I restore my settings?
I have tried everyrhing I know so please can a computer wizard help me-is there any hope?
Thank you in advance

My Heritage is a good off-line tree maker. You do not have to publish it on-line or sign in or pay for it. But like many programmes you can download free, you do have to tick or "uncheck" the boxes and download only the parts you want. You do not have to have it as your homepage nor do you have to download the toolbar. Just look and read the instructions properly.
I would recommend the basic tree builder programme which is far superior to the tree here at GR.
If you go to Control Panel in My Computer, there is an add and remove programmes facility.

Happy news! Happy me! All resored and back to normal. Thanks very much

I feel a bit nervous now to try My Heritage Eddie just in case I have the same problem. I really do need an offline tree though as I find GR tree a little difficult to navigate!

I beleive "My Heritage" does charge (quite a lot ) if your tree is over 250 people

There was a thread on it yesterday - somewhere !

They only charge if your tree in published on-line, which it does n't have to be. The basic tree builer programme is free and you can build as many trees as you wish.I have a complete tree and also separate ones for smaller family groups.

Eddie, if I do as suggested and from the control panel add My Heritage how do I customise? I have just had another look and I cannot see where the tick boxes are neither can I see where it says I can down load the bits I want! I am now confused and am thinking I may just get a roll of wallpaper and do my own!!

I use MyHeritage Windows software and don't pay anything for their 'premium' service, so it's effectively free. I find the software very good, myself and I have trialled a few other paid for tree builders and not been as impressed.

The software bugs you to upgrade occasionally but does not get in the way.

From memory; When installing the software select advanced or something and then de-select the toolbar and homepage options. It then won't 'take over'.

Maybe it is me but I did not enjoy all the emails, they were flooding my inbox. They even managed to bypass the junk filter.

SatNav, I'm not sure which emails you are getting but I seem to be only getting replies to my forum posts (unlike GR!) and a quarterly newsletter.
There's a newsletter unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email.

GR does not have forums

Never have had

They have threads

responses to you are posted on the THREAD

but GR does not tell you that there are new postings

Never have done

and I hope they never will!!!

I hate getting those emails from other sites, they flood my email box at times!
