Does anyone know if there anyway i can find out the full name of someones parents without actually buying the birth certificate? Got a possible 13 great aunts/uncles, but need to check the parents names to verify it? Thanks x x

You could look through FreeBMD if they were born after 1911 - you can see mother's maiden name. It's not foolproof but could narrow down the field of search.

Censuses before 1911 might help.

Locality? Some parish records are on line - or people may have cds etc - worth asking.

Perhaps add a few more details and see what comes back?

Ive looked on FreeBMD, and thats what has gotten me confused! Im looking for children of a Jonathan and Annie Dutton (nee Williams) who married in 1905 in Burton. On FreeBMD, i have found a possible 14 children, the first 2 born in Basford (Nottingham), and the rest in Burton. But 2 of the children have the same name. Im sooo confused! Thank you for your help!

Where is the 4 children born, 2 still living from? Does that come off the 1911 census? I am sure of at least 4 of the children through family, but not the rest! Thank you all again for your help x x

1911 census asks how many children born during the marriage and how many still living.

These are the entries that i have found, but didnt think they would have this many children, and 2 of them called Doris. Thats why im confused. But also, have looked up alternative Dutton/Williams marriages in the Burton / Nottingham areas, but havent been able to find any other than mine? x x

Naomi, I wouldn't be too concerned about 2 children being given the same name. Often when a child died a second child was given the same name. However, having said that, I can't see a death for the first Doris.
