Does anyone know if parish records exist for this part of Kent please?
I have tried the usual route of Google, but nothing.
Tried Family search, nothing
A tree search on here has brought him up, but the owners of the tree haven't found him either.
Barnett Evans was born c1809, Sandgate, Kent

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks and regards

Maggie

Edited to say I have his marriage in Derby

Thanks Florence

In 1841 it says 'N' in the column to say he was not born in the area of Bethnal Green, as he was born in Sandgate, Kent, as per the 1851 census. But, in 1861 it says he was born 'high seas' Whatever that means !

Thanks for your help, I may have to concede defeat with this line.

Maggie I saw his son? marriage on the London records...I note both father and son were cork cutters...I wonder if Barnetts father was too..and hence Barnett was born aboard shp, bringing back a cargo of cork...

lol it's a fanciful idea I know :)

Sandgate is near Folkestone and many of the parish register films are held in Folkestone library.
At the moment the library is closed for building renovations, but contact me in a week or two and I will go into the library and check what they have.

Alternatively the Canterbury Cathedral Archives will have the parish registers. The originals for parishes in the diocese are held there, as are filmed copies.
Again I can go there for you, but not for at least 2 or 3 weeks.

Give me a nudge, say mid August and I will see what I can do for you.

Instrestingly Sandgate does not not appear in Genuki's list of parishes....

http://users.ox.ac.uk/~malcolm/genuki/big/eng/KEN/parishes.html

A search of... http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/places/regindex1-3.pdf

Folkestone next Sandgate KEN 1894 1934 Elham
Before 1894 see Folkestone
After 1934 see Folkestone

So it looks as if Gwyn in Kent's kind offer will be your best bet in furthering your research.

Or go to your local LDS Centre and order the records there.

Lewis (1848) says:
SANDGATE, a chapelry, partly within the liberty of the town of Folkestone, and partly in the parish of Cheriton, union of Elham, hundred of Folkestone, lathe of Shepway, E. division of Kent, 1ΒΌ mile (W. by S.) from Folkestone...
http://www.british-history.ac.uk/source.aspx?pubid=445

So you probably need either the parish records for Folkestone or for Cheriton.
[The LDS has films of the BTs for St. Paul's Sandgate (from Canter. Cath Arch) back to 1854]
The OPRs and matching BTs/Archdeacon's transcripts for St. Martin's Cheriton are at Canterbury, but I expect Folkestone library has a copy too..
