Sorry I couldn't get back to you sooner, just moved house and haven't got internet yet so can only check messages when I visit my parents.

I'll look into the Frederick who died in 1950 and let you know.

Many Thanks for your help.

It is scary ot think of, isn't it?

My cousins idolised my dad because of that!

and they loved my mum because she was the one member of Harry and dad's family who never criticised Harry and his wife for having 6 children!

I never knew any of that until we spent time down in Australia in 75/76, where the 5 daughters had all emigrated. They were all at least 10 years older than me ......... so this was the first time that I really got to know them.

Harry and his wife had also emigrated, but Harry was dead by the time we went down there ...... his wife was still alive, and also told me how much she loved my Mum for what she did and did not say!

and they were not necessarily too old for WW2 either.

My father was born in 1904, too young for WW1, and worked in Restricted Occupation in WW2, which saved him from being called up.

His brother was born in 1895, served and was wounded and exposed to gas in WW1. The only job Uncle could do was a janitor because of his wounds and the result of the gas ...... but that would not have saved him from being called up if Dad had not managed to get him employment at the same factory where he worked.

The problem also with ones born at the turn of the century, whilst being too young to join the army for WW1, a lot of them did. They lied about their age, they even gave false names. Tracking one of those could be a bit of a nightmare.

There are a couple of marriages in leicestershire for a Frederick Kitchen, but no middle initial.
Have you looked for contacts on this site using "search trees" above?

The l9ll census states he is "delicate" - could he have died? There is a death on free bmd, but the age is not quite right.
Good luck,

Hi,

my great Grandmother was Agnes Marion Kitchen born 1898 in Loughborough.

When the 1911 census came out, I found out she had a brother called Frederick Henry Kitchen that the family didn't know about born in 1901. She later called her son Fred, I assume after her brother.

I can find no records of him after the 1911 census. No death or marriage. Has anybody got any idea where I can try next?
I would like to know what happened to him.

Thanks for any help in advance,
Vicky x
