Thanks for the suggestion Cathy but I have tried the 1860 census and no trace - they must have returned before that.

I don't know why they came back but am certainly glad they did, or I wouldn't be sitting here now!

Have you tried looking for them in the 1860 USA Federal Census?

My grandparents went to New York in 1904 but had to come back and I

didn't know when...all I knew was that they were back in Wales for the

1911 Census.

I eventually found them with help from someone on here in the 1910

Census!

I was so chuffed!

Kind regards,

Cathy

After my 2 x gt grandparents were married in London in 1839 I have found them on every census return up to 1881, living in and around the Westminster area (they both died in the 1880's). I always assumed that they spent their whole lives in London. However, whilst looking for someone else, I have suddenly found the whole family - parents and five children on a passenger list to New York in 1854.
It is definitely the same family, although the parents ages are about 3 or 4 years out, all childrens names and ages agree. They obviously didn't stay in the states as they were back in Westminster in 1861. Does anybody know of a website to trace their return to the UK. The incoming passenger list on Ancestry doesn't start until 1878.
I know that I will never be able to find out why they returned, but would be very interested to know when.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
