My great grandfather Thomas Suttron died in 1913 whilst working on the railways as a shunter. He was hit by a railway wagon and had his foot almost completely cut off. He died the next day. The inquest report in the newspaper was very detailed but it was decided that no one from the railway company was to blame. It was apparently his own fault for not taking enough care!!!

Thank you so much. i have just done so, and found a lot of info. I know one of my ancestors a John Purchase married to Cecelia Purchase was killed in a railway accident, which was printed in the newspaper as a terrible accident leaving 5 children without a father. It listed him as colliding with a train. Ouch! he was a fireman on the railways. Thank you once again.

If you google "Railway Archives" there is quite a lot of information about accidents on the railways.

Thank you so much for your help, i really was floundering here.

There are 4 entries for the name Purchase on the Black Sheep Railway Index (or it could be just 3 as two of them look like they might be the same person). They could be deaths or just injuries from accidents. You can see them here:-

Hi, can anyone help me, i'm running out of info and new to this so don't really know where to start. A number of members of the Purchase branch of my family worked on the railway. Some even died there! Is there anywhere i can find info from?
