There is a cremation for Didcott Violet Lilian in Cambridge 1999.
Details can be viewed on deceased online. (a pay to view site, giving date of death, cremation, and home address)

This might be what is going on

from ancestry

England & Wales, Marriage Index: 1916-2005

Name: Violet L Baldock
Spouse Surname: Didcott
Date of Registration: Apr-May-Jun 1969
Registration district: Saffron Walden
Registration county (inferred): Essex
Volume Number: 4a
Page Number: 2398
Find Spouse: Ronald D Didcott

whoever registered the death knew that she had two names ....... and entered them both on the death certificate. Then both names have been transcribed into the GRO register.

was Baldock her maiden name, or the name of her first husband???

There is only one registration, not two.

Registration district: Cambridge
Inferred County: Cambridgeshire
Register number: A53C
District and Subdistrict: 3311A
Entry number: 137

However, there are two entries in the index, which is not quite the same thing. There are, presumably, two surnames quoted on the certificate, and the thoughtful clerk at the GRO choose to enter both in the index.

Ordering the cert will confirm what is going on.

Thanks Rose, but why would this happen? Any idea?

There was another thread that had this a few weeks ago and woman was listed under both of her married surnames in the death index.

EDIT - please don't look for this woman, there is another thread doing that, I just wanted ideas as to why it might happen. She did marry Mr Didcott (in her 50s), we think she was previously married to a Mr Baldock, but no marriage has been found.

Why are there two death entries for the same woman?
