Could anyone please tell me if there is any advance in using Family Tree Maker and, also, is it possible to put my family tree already on GR on to a disc?

You can certainly download a copy of your family tree currently on GR. This will come to you in the form of a Gedcom file which you can store on your computer, memory stick or a Cd or dvd disk. You will however then need a Family history program in order to view that gedcom file as a family tree.

There are numerous family tree programs available, Family Tree Maker being just one of them. No one program is perfect in every respect but FTM is probably the most popular. As far as what advantage is concerned, I suppose the principal one is that with such a program on your own computer you are in control of things. You do not need to access the internet to work on your family tree and most of the family tree programs have many facilities for adding and storing information which are not currently available when using GR to store your tree.
