Hi Carter

Thanks. Try Jan's tip on a previous thread. Search for your rellies names on Google Books. It's amazing how much is there.

there's even an entry in Wikipedia on him

and it mentions the two books, with their ISBN numbers:-

Julian Barnes' 2005 novel Arthur & George (ISBN 0-224-07703-1) recounts the entire episode in great detail, as does the non-fiction work Conan Doyle and the Parson's Son: The George Edalji Case (ISBN 1843862417).

PigletsPal

Do you refer to Roy Marsden? (Adam Dalgleish)

Thanks for the links. I've been googling like crazy and found out a lot more.

This is my first major 'find' in my family and I'm a tad excited about it (you may have noticed!)

Beverley,

There is also a recent novel by Julian Barnes on the subject, "Arthur and George". I haven't read this particular book but he is usually witty and amusing.

If you join the above, you can then get access to old Newspapers, quite a few articles on it.

Thanks for that Piglets Pal.

I've been doing some more Googling and had no idea this was such an important case. George's grandfather is my Gtx5 (maybe 6) grandfather.

There was me thinking I only had Ag. Labs in my family!!

Thanks for the tip - I'll give it a try.

This is probably not the best board to post this but Jan added a tip earlier for Google Books. I've just done some searching and found one of my rellies has a whole book about him.

*A definitive study of the George Edalji case covering the early life and harrassment of the Edalji family; the police set up George using fabricated evidence; the intervention of Conan Doyle; the Home office and Police cover up; and the eventual free pardon given to George for a miscarriage of justice. A classic Victorian and Edwardian crime set against a background of racism and police duplicity.*

Wow!! What a find. Can't wait to get the book now.
