Military Death

Andrew Report 4 Aug 2010 23:51

I'm trying to establish whether a Clifford Price who died in 1941 was my grandfather or not.
His death certificate provides no details of spouse, I only have his military number. Is there anywhere I can go with that military rank number which may give details of his wife at the time to help me confirm or dispel this person as a family member?
Any thoughts would be appreciated

If you know his Regiment, you could try contacting them. I know there is some sort of restriction on releasing WW2 records to only next of kin, but a way round it would be to ask if he was the husband of X. If you aren't next of kin or your parents aren't, if still living, not sure what you can do. In either case, you have to prove that the service man has died.

You could also try the National Archives, where the same restrictions are supposed to apply. There is a charge if you are successful

Your parents birth cert should give you both parents names
