Hi Jennifer,

You could try the Australian National Archives website:
http://www.naa.gov.au/

There's a link for a name search and specific categories for the different wars. I found my grandfather's WW2 army details through there.

Hope it helps.

Cheers,
Carol

Jennifer,

Try the website http://mappingouranzacs.naa.gov.au as it has all the information about Australian WW1 soldiers and you can do a name search just using a surname.

On the home page on the right hand side is says Other search options then on the next screen under no 1 family name, just put the surname in there.

You should be able to access their service records from there. If you get stuck let me know and I'll help out.

Jennifer do you mean the Australian Soldier was here in London?

Unfortunately if you only have a surname and nothing else to go by it will make it rather difficult.

You could contact the Australian War Memorial in Canberra www.awm.gov.au they may be able to help, but you would have to have something more than a surname -like where he's from; a rough age maybe even who his parents are, where was he born etc

best of luck

Any tips would be much appreciated.
