Does anyone have some reliable web sites they use when it comes to finding your ancestors in France??

Did France have censuses??

Ive just found an ancestor died in Paris in 1864 . He's English & married in Wandsworth in 1842 ( no wonder I couldn't find them on census of England )

Any help/suggestions most welcome ..... feeling like a duck out of water

Ive decided I need to obtain a copy of the will & go from there ( hopefully its not in French )
