In the address field? I know some of the addresses in the 1841 are a bit "scrappy" but this one is having a laugh isn't he?

Do you want to post the details so we can go and have a look-see?

Thomas Southeron of Durham in the township of Elvit. he was born in 1779 and had 5 children and no wife in the 1841 census. Yes, the pb and mb is in the address bar under Durham and with these letters for the whole column.

Yes, I do like the actual spelling myself! Found it just using forename.
No idea what the letters mean after all that - maybe the enumerators own personal code!

Sorry about spelling. I read the original as Southeron- that was my maiden name and it looks like my spelling!

My guess is Parliamentary Borough & Municipal Borough

Madmeg

Madmeg Report 16 Aug 2010 22:34

I thought the same as mgnv - but the enumerator seems to have written it next to almost every address on his plot - why would he bother?

Thanks for all your help folks- Going back to name, apparently Southeron has died out with my generation in uk. I am one of three girls and no sign of any other branch doing better, hence I'm very precious about it when I find one with my exact spelling!!
