There's pretty much nothing for N Ireland online. However, N Ireland only came into being in 1922. Most of the 19th century censuses were destroyed and only fragments remain. The 1901/1911 censuses (for all Ireland) are online at:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/

Civil BMD rego's only began in 1864 in all Ireland (non-catholic marrs rego's started in 1845). You can search the GRO(I) index thru 1950 (after partition, N Ireland is excluded) at:
http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#start
[Browse their record collection]

You can then buy BMD certs you've found indexed (although the uncertified images of the rego's are cheaper still) via:
http://www.groireland.ie/

I am very new and dare i say very novice in this adventure. I have just noticed that the search resources are for england & wales. Are there other searches available for Scotland and northern Ireland?
