i have been searching for my early robinson family and having had a bit of a break from my research i just want to run my finding past you.

I have Thomas Jnr born 1809 in middlesex he married his wife maria longwood in ipswich even though she was also born in middlesex and they had a batch of their children baptised in Ipswich despite the fact they were born and living in london.

all this suggest a strong family link with ipswich and the family did move to ispwich by 1851 census.

I am pretty sure i have his father Thomas Snr born 1789 in Barham(small village just outside ipswich) a long time ago someone on here suugested he married a Mary Ann Brook(s) just been on IGI and there are 3 Robinson christenings all with strong family names that list parents as thomas robinson and mary brook

There is a mary brook listed in igi christened in june 1779 in ipswich.

is there any way to double check that this is the right family

Did you get his middle name from one of his children's marriage certs?

Two points:

1: If he was baptised in 1809 and he is the son of Thomas and Mary Brooks, why was he not baptised at the same time as Maria?

2: Lambeth is in Surrey, not Middlesex. Does he ever give anymore that Middlesex as a POB?

Oh bugger no he dosnt and he is dead by 1862 guess before i go any further i should order is death cert and hope that may give me some clues

i am confident that Thomas is my 4xg grandfather as i can trace a direct line from him down to my father so im, fine up till him its going back the next generation that im not so sure about now. Has Lambeth always been in surrey knowing how boundries have changed

Potty Report 26 Aug 2010 13:00

Yes, Lambeth is south of the Thames and was in Surrey until it was incorporated into Greater London. Middlesex was north of the Thames.

I am in the same position with most of my lines. Have them definitely back to 1840s then not quite sure.

Potty i have ordered his death cert so hopefully that will confirm a few things.

I and others assumed that the 2 Thomas Robinson in Ipswich must be related as the are both shoe makers and both sergeant at the mace
