Yes, your GR tree is not changed in any way.

I would say, though that GR's tree is not ideal and only supports a limited number of 'official' gedcom fields, which means that it does not always transfer too well to other tree programs. Dates can sometimes be a problem especially if they are in the main DOB etc fields and have a non-standard format.

However, go ahead and try it - nothing to loose.

One further question I have on this subject - if I call for a Getcom from Genesreunited does my tree still remain as it was on GR

That is to say - is the Getcom just a copy - my original tree remains in tact with notes etc

Thank you

Irene

Yes you can.

On GR hover over Family tree then click Gedcoms. GR will email you a copy of your tree which you should save on your computer.

You can then upload this to Ancestry. Go to Ancestry then hover over Family Tree, and click Upload a GEDCOM. However, rather than overwrite your existing tree it will create a new one. I put the date in mine so I know which is which i.e. "MyTree 08_2010" Once you are sure it has loaded, then, if you wish, you can delete your old tree, or just leave it as it is.

Unlike Ancestry, where you can have multiple trees, uploading a new tree to GR will always over write your existing one.
