You can search for him here - Registers of Seamans services for those who joined up to 1923.

Hi Barbara, have you tried National archives, they hold records for Royal Navy ratings 1853-1923 and Royal Navy ratings after 1923

My grandfather served with HMS Lucifer from about 1918 to? any ideas where I can find his naval records history
